YES, GEAR JAMMERS, DOUBLE CLUTCHERS, CURB JUMPERS, MAMMY JAMMERS, COOKIE CRUNCHERS, AND BABYCAKES THE MOJOMAN® IS ALIVE AND WELL. THE MOJOMAN® IN THE EARLY 80’S GOT TIRED OF THE REVOLVING DOOR OF R&R RADIO HITTING HIM IN THE BUTT. Today he spends the summer months near PITTSBURGH, PA where he and wife SANDY run a successful ice cream wholesale business with a fleet of ice cream vending trucks, and he spends his winter months at their home near TAMPA, FL. THE MOJOMAN® whose real name is Sid Grubbs, ‘MOJ’ as he is called by his friends started in radio part time at a small station, WCNG, in CANNONSBURG, PA in 1958. In those days using the DJ name MR."D". He started using his TRADEMARKED name THE MOJOMAN® in 1959. After hearing the word MOJO used in an automobile comercial, while in L.A. He told his friend BO DIDDLEY he thought he'd call himself THE MOJOMAN®, BO DIDDLEY told him "That's it, do it'" He also told BO,"I think I'll wear a TURBAN like CHUCK WILLIS" (Chuck Willis was a soul singer and writer who died very young, from something curable, like CONWAY TWITTY) THE MOJOMAN worked at several radio stations including WHLL in Wheeling, WV - WING in Dayton, Ohio - WCEF in Parkersburg, WV - WOHO in Toledo, Ohio - WNIO in Niles, OH - WORD in Spartanburg, SC - WISE in Asheville, NC - WGOW in Chattanooga, TN - WPDQ in Jacksonville, FL - WNAM in Neenah, WI - and WRKT (AM FM) Cocoa Bch., Fl. THE MOJOMAN feels today’s radio sounds too impersonal. "WHEN THE PERSONALITIES COME BACK, THE RATINGS WILL COME BACK" Most Morning shows have Super Ratings, because they're LIVE. How can you identify with a machine? Nowadays it’s nothing but song after song, IF THEY PLAY THE WHOLE SONG!! As my friend JACK GALE says in his book(SAME TIME, SAME STATION), “PLAY 6 songs in a row followed by six commercials give your name and they call it a SHOW, I wonder what the term SHOW means today”. THE MOJOMAN® still says, "HANG LOOSE, KEEP SMILIN', DON'T GET LOST, KEEP YOUR SHOES TIED AND KEEP ON, KEEPIN' ON.” |
